Schoolboy, 10, shot in head with air pellet

A 10-YEAR-OLD boy is today recovering at home after being shot in the head with an air rifle.

Merseyside Police have now launched an investigation into the wounding which took place while he was playing with friends in a field near Fleet Lane, St Helens, on Sunday.

Merseyside Police said they are treating the incident “extremely seriously” and are now trying to trace the rifle and the person who fired it.

Detectives said that, at around 5pm, the 10-year-old boy was playing in the field with his friend, when he felt a pain in his head.

The boy had received an injury to the head and was taken to Whiston Hospital where it was confirmed the wound was consistent with an air pellet. They said the injury wais described by doctors as minor, and he was discharged from hospital.
