A YOUNG man was stabbed 14 times with a knife he had used to confront a stranger who had insulted his girlfriend.
Jamie Grant-Hanlon, 23, was fatally injured with one of two knives he had used to threaten John Hughes.
Hughes, 23, of Humber Close, Kirkdale, was jailed for six years yesterday after he admitted manslaughter.
Liverpool Crown Court heard that, on January 12, Hughes arrived at a house where Mr Grant-Hanlon and Kate Hyland were drinking, and implied he wanted to buy drugs.
He insulted Miss Hyland when Mr Grant-Hanlon tried to get him to leave.
The two men grappled with each other in Goodison Road, Walton, before Hughes left.
When he returned, Mr Grant-Hanlon was armed with two knives, and a struggle broke out during which he was fatally stabbed.
