Race track signing adds extra pace to LFC squad

LIVERPOOL FC has unveiled its own Formula One-standard car to compete in a racing superleague against the likes of AC Milan and Corinthians of Brazil.

Manager Rafa Benitez and captain Steven Gerrard joined the rest of the Anfield squad at the Melwood Drive training ground to whisk the covers from their £650,000 V12 racecar yesterday.

The car boasts a Menard designed V12 engine capable of generating up to 750 horsepower and top speeds of 185mph. This kind of performance makes it comparable with the cars used on the F1 circuit by Lewis Hamilton.

Liverpool and Superleague Formula agreed the deal just a week ago, meaning the club will join the ranks of AC Milan FC and AS Roma FC from Series A, Turkish side Galatasary, and Brazilian giants Corinthians and Flamengos in the inaugural season.

Only two clubs per football league are allowed to take part in the racing championship and the first race will rev into life at Donington Park a week tomorrow. The Premier League’s only other representative is Tottenham Hotspur.

Ian Ayre, LFC’s commercial director, explained why the club has become involved.
