Bellamy sows the seeds of knowledge

DAVID BELLAMY made a popular return to The Southport Flower Show this weekend.

The TV presenter handed out one of three schools gardening competition prizes to Greasby Junior School, Wirral.

Children at the Eco-School have been building poly-tunnels for herbs, flowers, vegetables and shrubs and have set up water butts to conserve rainwater.

David Jackson, the show’s chief executive, said: “David is not only very popular with the youngsters, he gets a strong following among the ladies.

“On a serious level, he is a heavyweight on the environment, and it’s important for us to have someone of that stature who can come along and talk about these matters.”

Organisers estimate more than 70,000 people attended the show over four days.

It ended with the traditional sell-off last night when queues of bargain hunters are allowed in for £5 to seek out cut-price goods.
