Hopes school site will become a community sports centre

EVERTON residents are hoping a primary school might be transformed into a sports centre if the council votes in favour of moving the school.

Liverpool City councillors will vote on whether to accept a tender to co-locate Pinehurst Primary School, on Pinehurst Road, to the junior school on Pinehurst Avenue.

A tender has been selected to refurbish the junior school site and build two reception classes and new toilets.

If approved by the executive board on Friday, work will start on the move next month for completion by April, 2009.

A private document has been circulated to councillors on the possible future of the old site once it becomes surplus to requirements.

But local residents are hopeful the council- owned site might be kept for community use as a playing area or sports centre.

Labour Anfield councillor Brian Dowling, said: “The site is so important, so we’re hopeful it will be used to benefit the community.”
