DUFFY, Leona Lewis, Adele, the Ting Tings and Liverpool’s own The Wombats could be among the acts performing at the MTV Europe Music Awards at the Echo Arena Liverpool in November.

They have all been shortlisted for the best New UK & Ireland Act which will be decided by the MTV audience.

The winner will then do battle with the continent to triumph as "Europe’s Favourite" in a result to be announced in Liverpool on November 6.

The awards, which will be broadcast in more than 40 countries, reached a global audience of 30m in 2007.

Merseyside music fans can now register for tickets for the event.

North West fans will have priority in a global ballot which went live yesterday at www. mtvema.com

The majority of tickets will be available to people in the UK, with a clear priority being given to the North West of England.

"With the MTV Europe Music Awards being one of the main music highlights of Liverpool’s City of Culture calendar, we are very keen that people from the north west of England have the greatest chance to enjoy the show live," said Richard Godfrey, senior vice president, music and production & executive producer of the awards.

"We plan to put on a show that they will talk about for many years to come."

The tickets will retail for £60 (plus £3 booking fee). An additional charge of £4.95 will be added for special delivery of the tickets.

Tim Banfield, Echo Arena Liverpool general manager, added: "I have no doubt the MTV Awards will be one of the highlights of Liverpool’s Capital of Culture year.

"These will be the hottest tickets in town and I would urge all fans to register for the ballot in order to be in with a chance of witnessing one of the most spectacular stage shows in the world."

The ballot closes at 6pm on Saturday, October 4. Only one entry will be permitted per household. Each entry will be able to apply for a maximum allocation of 4 tickets, with the minimum age being 16 years old.

The draw will take place on Monday October 6.
