Market shoppers acquire a taste for Wirral Waters development

DEVELOPERS behind one of the most ambitious schemes ever proposed for Wirral have said they were overwhelmed by public response to their plans.

Peel Developments have been working with Wirral Council on their £4.5bn Wirral Waters scheme, which would revitalise the Birkenhead dockland area for more than two years.

Their latest exhibition took place at Birkenhead Market, with models of the massive waterside redevelopment scheme which Peel say will see the transformation of Birkenhead Docks, with Wirral becoming an international waterside destin- ation rivalling cities such as Sydney, New York and Shanghai.

The scheme will also see the creation of a world-class mixed- use iconic waterfront development providing major benefits for the local economy and for the people of Wirral and beyond with a massive increase in tourist business, tens of thousands of new jobs and inward investment to the area.

Lindsey Ashworth, development director at Peel, said: “We were overwhelmed by the number of people who came to see us at the stand over the weekend, and equally pleased by the response and reaction from the people of Wirral at the proposals for Wirral Waters.

“Almost everybody who we spoke to was in full support of the scheme and keen to get things moving.”
