BOGUS water officials stole £800 from an elderly woman after tricking their way into her home in Wirral.
Merseyside Police are now urging elderly and vulnerable residents to be extra-vigilant.
The burglary took place at around 10.30am on Tuesday, September 16, when a man claiming to be a water official called at an address in Townfield Lane, Bebington, claiming to be checking water pipes due to a burst main down the road.
The 82-year-old resident requested identification but was told he didn't have any and pointed to the “red work van” outside the property to verify his identity.
Fifty minutes later, a second man entered the property claiming to be his manager.
A few minutes later, she found the two men in discussion and noticed a few items had been moved around.
When the men left, the woman noticed that approximately £800 had been stolen from her handbag.
