Tall Ships drew 120,000

AROUND 120,000 people watched the Tall Ships Parade of Sail from Wirral, according to figures released by the local authority.

The event in July also attracted approximately 32,400 non-resident visitors, including an estimated 16,000 either on their first visit to Wirral or who visited only very infrequently.

Many of these visitors would not otherwise have visited Wirral.

As a result, the council said the popular event had a “major impact” on Wirral’s tourism profile as other events continued to grow in popularity in Capital of Culture year.

The research shows that the economic impact figures (in terms of direct spend by visitors) are also high, at almost £750,000, though the actual full economic impact will be greater.
