Mensa brains visit Liverpool

HUNDREDS of people with exceptionally high IQs have been in Liverpool this weekend for the annual British gathering of Mensa members.

The society’s three-day visit to the city, to coincide with the Capital of Culture, also saw the crowning of the Brain of Mensa. Four of the country’s most intelligent men and women, after battling through regional rounds, took part in the final.

After two gruelling hours of questions on subjects such as history, geography, art and literature, Les Hurst, from Derbyshire, was crowned the Brain of Mensa.

More than 300 members of the high- IQ society gathered at the Adelphi Hotel for a programme of talks and activities.

A Mensa spokesman said: “Our members have really enjoyed seeing the city.”
