THE go-ahead has been given to carry on with plans for an academy in Ellesmere Port.
Cheshire County Council’s Children’s Services Executive Member, David Rowlands, has approved the submission of a revised Expression of Interest, following the decision of Whitby High School to pull out of the project.
Authorisation was also confirmed for officers to undertake the necessary detailed work.
The new proposals would involve the closure of Ellesmere Port Specialist School of Performing Arts (EPSSPA) and Cheshire Oaks High School, which would be replaced with an academy built on the EPSSPA site.
Cllr Rowlands said: “Much urgent work now needs to be undertaken for us to meet deadlines to unlock more than £20m for educational provision that would not otherwise be available to Ellesmere.
“Extensive public consultation will now begin in early October.”
