Woman driver arrested after cyclist dies in road accident

A WOMAN has been arrested after a female cyclist died in a Cheshire road accident.

The victim’s husband was also seriously injured in the crash on the A50 Kingsway, in Warrington, on Saturday morning.

Bunches of flowers lined the road last night, paying tribute to the 42-year-old, named locally as Sharon.

The accident happened at 10.50am, when a Range Rover Sport collided with the couple, both on bikes, before crashing into another car.

Cheshire Police said the cyclist, and her 46-year-old husband, were taken to hospital, where she later died. Her husband remained in a critical condition last night.

Local residents have complained about speeding cars coming off the Kingsway Bridge, although no reason for Saturday’s crash has yet been established.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which was near the junction with Farrell Street.

WITNESSES should contact police on 01244 613813.
