Volunteers needed to tend soil

GARDENING volunteers are needed in Wirral to help transform an area of disused land into a community garden.

Leasowe Estate Tenants Association launched its community gardening club using £2,500 of Neighbour-hood Renewal Fund-ing to transform a third of an acre.

The land is behind the shops in Twickenham Drive and it is hoped that eventually local residents will have somewhere to meet up, make new friends and learn about gardening.

The land is owned by Leasowe Community Homes and the long-term vision foresees a wildlife area, a grassed play area and a series of segmented gardens that local schoolchil-dren can help tend. Community health worker Chris McGov-ern said: “It’s about getting involved – no matter what your age or ability – in doing something with and for the local community.”

Anyone interested in volunteering – or lending equipment – should contact Emma Hopwood, at LETA’s Leasowe Community Garden Club, on 639 6620.
