Singers stranded after flight called off

STRANDED mem- bers of Liverpool’s Irish Guards Singers slept rough at Manchester airport last night.

At least six of the former soldiers – all now more than 60 years old – stayed at the airport after their flight was unexpectedly cancelled.

They were en route to County Mayo, in Eire, where they are due to perform in a major concert tonight.

Around 35 of the singers and their spouses turned up at the airport yesterday hoping to fly to Knock Airport, Ireland.

But their 3.15pm flight – booked with airline BMI in July – had been cancelled. BMI told the choir a member of the group had been emailed to say the flight was cancelled, although no one recalled getting the message.
