And they’re off! Quad bike circuit a haven for teenage speed freaks

A FORMER motocross champion is opening a quad bike circuit to stop off-road bikes causing problems in his Wirral neighbourhood.

It has taken Neil Molloy, 35, and his wife Melanie two years to build a circuit across two acres behind their Leasowe garden centre. A motocross rider for 14 years, Mr Molloy has 49 trophies and is hoping his new circuit will get problem riders off the streets.

He said: “The area has had a lot of problems with children riding quad bikes illegally on public roads and across the beaches.

“It costs the police millions a year to apprehend and prosecute offenders, so I thought it would be good to provide a facility where they can learn to ride safely.”

Quad bikes and off-road bikes had been blamed for anti-social behaviour on Leasowe Common before it was closed to vehicles.

The area has also experienced problems on residential streets.

Local neighbourhood inspector Peter Kolokroni said: “We support anything that might reduce the problems we have with off- road and quad bikes.”

Plans for the circuit were passed by Wirral council without objection in July, and it will be officially opened this Saturday.
