ONE of Liverpool’s biggest attractions has been honoured by Virgin trains.
Virgin has named one of its Pendolino trains Tate Liverpool to celebrate the gallery's 20th anniversary.
The train was unveiled at Lime Street station yesterday and Virgin bosses said it was a rare accolade for a museum or gallery.
A record-breaking 879,000 people have visited the Tate so far in 2008 with the Gustav Klimt exhibition proving to be one of the highlights of the city’s Capital of Culture year.
Virgin said naming the train after the gallery showed, “its commitment to bringing visitors into the city to enjoy cultural attractions”.
Andrea Nixon, executive director of the gallery, said: “Tate Liverpool is an international gallery.
“It seems opportune for us to be honoured by Virgin Trains.”
