WATER regulator Ofwat has struck a deal with United Utilities to stop flooding in Warrington.
United Utilities have agreed to take action to lower the risk of flooding from overloaded sewers in Penketh.
Homes have been flooded by sewerage in recent months and others are at risk during heavy rain.
Regina Finn, Ofwat chief executive officer, said: “This is a good result for those people living in Penketh who have had to endure sewer flooding or live under the threat of their homes being flooded. We expect companies to under-stand which properties are at risk of sewer flooding and take action to address that risk.”
The work will include en-larging sewers, upgrading pumping equipment and building a new storm water outlet to the River Mersey. By August, 2011, 68 homes will be off the at-risk register. Ofwat will monitor work to reduce risk to homes in the Pyecroft Road, Penketh North and Penketh South areas.
