JMU university professor who lost job claims ‘I was silenced’

He asked why, during an inter-nal audit within the faculty in July, 2005, she had not raised her concerns over financial mismanagement. He said the auditors report, which was in draft in 2005 and finalised in 2006, had given the accounts a clean bill of health.

Prof Archibald then admitt-ed her statement of the fac-ulty “breaking all the rules” was an exaggeration and she was referring more to academic concerns. She went on to claim that restructuring and redun-dancies affected her, her staff and more importantly the students.

In reference to staff losses, she said: “Students have the right to continuation of provision, students deserve something and this matter was detrimental to students.”

But Mr Gilroy said when her disclosure report was studied by Professor Brian Kerrigan he concluded the majority of the content could be dealt with under the grievance procedure.

The hearing continues.
