Noms has applied for planning permission to convert part of the former Ashworth Hospital site on School Lane into a jail.
The site was first granted planning permission in January, 2007, but that will expire in January, 2009.
Sefton Council’s planning officers have advised councillors to grant permission only if Noms hive off part of the site to house the new station’s 234-vehicle car park and contribute money to the scheme. Sefton’s planning committee will meet to discuss the application on Wednesday.
Maghull Town Council was initially opposed to the prison being built. But it had a change of heart once Sefton brokered the station deal. Noms, Merseyrail and local councillors met two months ago to discuss the proposals.
