In its analysis of arts and heritage it also recommends: “Rationalising the service, particularly on the museum side and reducing the number of facilities.”
The report said Wirral had “adequate or over provision” in all its leisure facilities although it recommended better swimming facilities.
The consultants also noted problems with the age of many of the facilities, a maintenance back-log and issues with their location and distribution.
An accompanying report on the borough’s assets also said informal discussions had taken place with the police and primary care trust (PCT) to explore where there may potential for shared use of assets.
It said “Initial responses have been constructive” and refers to Merseyside Police’s plans to create a new area command centre in Wirral.”
It also says: “The opportunity for a joint development at Europa pools is particularly exciting. The PCT have significant funds available to invest in the joint development of this site and if the obvious and significant benefits of joint working are to be optimised it is important the council moves quickly to firm up its proposals for the site.”
