Stun gun man spared prison

A LIVERPOOL man found with a 90,000-volt stun gun hidden in his bedroom has walked free from court.

The weapon, which was disguised as a black knuckle duster, was found by police at the home of Lee Bates.

Bates’s blood was found splattered on the windows of mother-of-three Martine Wilson’s property in Norris Green after it was shot at on March 24.

The 27-year-old was arrested after escaping from a police chase, leading officers to search his home in Long Lane. Bates later admitting possessing the stun gun, but denied two further firearms charges

A Liverpool Crown Court jury took less than two hours to clear him of both charges following a three-day trial in August.

He appeared back in the dock yesterday in connection with the stun gun.

But Judge Robert Warnock decided to spare him prison after learning he had served the equivalent of a 10-month sentence while waiting trial on the gun charges.

Judge Warnock, who described the weapon as “truly revolting”, sentenced Bates to an 18-month conditional discharge.
