An investigation has been launched after a Liverpool sports club was burnt to the ground.
The fire spread rapidly through the timber building in Speke Hall Avenue at around 7.45pm on Thursday.
Fire crews from stations in Speke, Crosby and Belle Vale were called out to the scene.
Nobody was inside at the time and no-one was injured but the fire spread quickly through the single-storey building causing it to collapse.
A fire and rescue service investigation was under way yesterday.
Watch manager at Speke fire station Ian Holloway, said: “When we arrived at the scene, the building was well ablaze.
“There were five fire engines and an aerial platform at the scene together with the incident management team.
“The building was unoccupied at the time but eventually collapsed.
“The only thing left standing was a separate changing room.”
A BLAZE at a workshop caused road closures in both directions on the A55 between Chester and North Wales yesterday.
The fire at the building near Post House roundabout around 4pm yesterday, caused major disruption to drivers.
As a precautionary measure the A55 was closed between Sainsbury’s roundabout at the junction with the A41 and Broughton roundabout.
