Smashing Halloween pumpkin treat for elephants

ASIAN elephants and Chester Zoo’s Greater One-horned rhinoceroses, will mark the end of Halloween with a pumpkin smashing festival.

The Hollies Farm Shop, Tarporley, donated pumpkins to the elephants and rhinos.

Kevin Buley, Chester Zoo’s head of zoo programmes, said: “The elephants and rhinos will have great fun with the pumpkin mountain.” Mindy Cowap, of The Hollies Farm Shop, added: “We are delighted to donate our leftover pumpkins to help with the enrichment of the elephants and rhinos at Chester Zoo.

“This year we have harvested more than 4,000 pumpkins.”

The pumpkin smashing will take place at the zoo from 11am at the elephant enclosure and 11.15am at the rhino enclosure on Monday November 3. Visitors are should arrive 10 minutes early.
