Tack attack mystery on Wirral Way
WIRRAL Park rangers have issued warnings along a popular route for walkers and cyclists after hundreds of tacks were spread along the walkway.
The Wirral Way, between Caldy and Thurstaston, had been targeted, possibly in revenge against inconsiderate cyclists.
A number of bike riders are known to have suffered punctures and fears have also been raised by dog walkers about potential injuries to their pets after the tacks were found.
Rangers also found their efforts to clear the path frustrated when more tacks were put there after they had cleared them.
Cllr Bob Moon, cabinet member for culture, tourism and leisure, said: “It would appear that this is a concerted effort by someone or some people to cause disruption to regular visitors to the Way.
“Our rangers have been making every effort to clear the path as effectively as possible, but it is an impossible task to remove every single tack, particularly when whoever is responsible is coming back regularly to leave more.
“It is becoming extremely likely that a person or animal is going to suffer an injury as a result of these actions so it is important that it stops now.
“The police have also been informed and when the person or people responsible have been identified, they will be dealt with by the police.”
