JMU wins award for the way it is run

LIVERPOOL John Moores University has won national recognition for the way it is run.

LJMU was one of three organisations to be awarded a 2008 British Quality Foundation UK Excellence Award by the Princess Royal at a London ceremony.

The awards recognise businesses and organisations that have improved the way they do business.

The judges said LJMU had “set itself apart from competitors in the higher education sector” and praised its work in the community.

Vice Chancellor Professor Michael Brown said: “We are delighted to have achieved a UK Excellence Award at our first submission attempt. This is a real encouragement to all our staff who have been brave enough to adopt a new way of running a university and been prepared to challenge the status quo. Winning is the real icing on the cake.”

British Quality Foundation chief executive Joe Goasdoué said: “We’ve been really pleased with the level of entries this year. With such a variation of companies, from public to private sector, the judging process proved to be a hard decision.”
