Dance group Boogie for your Bones at London event

A LIVERPOOL dance school performed in front of an array of celebrities at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall.

The Billiart Dance Company, from St Julie’s Catholic High, Woolton, performed at the National Osteoporosis Society’s Boogie for your Bones event.

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood is behind the event to promote dance as a way of keeping bones strong and healthy.

The Billiart Dance Company, whose pupils are aged 13 to 16, were one of four dance troops chosen.

A member of Billiart said: “We practised religiously, every night until gone 8pm to make sure we did a great performance.

“Craig was so lovely to us and he was really down to earth – we thought his dance plan was really fun and pretty simple to follow.

“It was a real treat to perform on World Osteoporosis Day and hope we’ve been a great inspiration to people of all ages to get up and boogie for their bones!”

Boogie for your Bones was developed by Horwood and health expert Dr Miriam Stoppard.

Part of Love Your Bones, a campaign by the National Osteoporosis Society, the dance exercise plan is available to download for free at www.loveyourbones.org.uk

According to the society, one in two women and one in five men over the age of 50 will break a bone, mainly due to osteoporosis.

Horwood, who can be seen performing Boogie for your Bones in a demonstration film, said: “Dance is one of the best forms of weight-bearing exercise.”
