‘Tourism Oscar’ for Culture Company

LIVERPOOL Culture Company picked up one of the region’s highest tourism accolades last night.

The company behind this year’s spectacular calendar of events won the Visitor Impact Award at the fifth annual England’s Northwest Tourism Awards.

The Culture Company’s creative director Phil Redmond collected the award from host Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen at a glittering ceremony in St George’s Hall organised by the North West Development Agency (NWDA).

Judges said the “tourism Oscar” recognises the huge effect Liverpool 08 has had on the region’s visitor economy.

An NWDA statement said: “With more than 300 events including world and European premieres, Capital of Culture has generated unprecedented visitor numbers for Merseyside, has put the north west on the international map and has helped to break down old stereotypes.
