Liverpool doctor "flushed girlfriend's head down toilet"

A TOP Liverpool doctor attacked his girlfriend and flushed her head in the toilet.

Peter Rowlands, senior consultant radiologist at the Royal and Broadgreen, denied turning on lover Fiona Eldean, 44, after she confronted him with mobile phone evidence of an affair.

But yesterday, after a two-day trial, the 51-year- old was convicted of two counts of assault on last New Year’s Eve.

Rowlands slumped forward in his seat and put his head in his hands when the guilty verdict was passed.

Rowlands, of Upper Parliament Street, Toxteth, admitted cheating on Miss Eldean whom he had met on the internet in June 2007.

Today she said: “This has been such a terrible and traumatic time for me. I am just glad now that it is all over.”

It is understood Rowlands intends to appeal against the verdict.

The Royal Liverpool’s medical director Dr Peter Williams said: “Dr Peter Rowlands has been employed as a consultant radiologist at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust since 1990.

“He is a highly-regarded and respected member of staff whose clinical work is outstanding, and the trust has had no concern regarding his clinical performance or conduct.

“The trust will now consider what the implications are given the outcomes of the case.”
