The funeral of former rugby league player David Myers, from Warrington, has been held.

The 37-year-old was killed when the van he was driving hit a bridge support between junctions 17 and 18 on the M6 motorway in Cheshire on October 21.

The ex-Wigan Warriors and Widnes Vikings star’s funeral was held at St Raphael’s Church on Liverpool Road in Widnes, followed by a service at Widnes Crematorium.

Myers played for the Wigan Warriors between 1990 and 1992 where he made 69 appearances for the team scoring 38 tries. He also scored a vital try in the 1991 Challenge Cup Final at Wembley to help Wigan defeat St Helens, 13-8.“

Performance director Joe Lydon said: “David and I played in the same Wigan team in the early 1990s. His sad death is such a tragedy and my thoughts are with his family.”
