Kelly takes on Field again

BIRKENHEAD Lib-Dem councillor Stuart Kelly has been selected by his party to challenge incumbent MP Frank Field at the next general election.

In 2005, the Liberal Democrats secured second place to Mr Field – and say they are hopeful of improving on that position.

However, Mr Field polled far head of the competition, receiving 18,059 votes, a majority of 12,934 over Cllr Kelly’s 5,125, with the Conservatives trailing not far behind in third place with 4,602 votes.

Cllr Kelly told a selection meeting that the biggest threat to the regeneration of Birkenhead “is the financial crisis we now face”.
