Firms take hard line over court disputes

LAWYERS DLA Piper have reported a marked increase in litigation as the challenging economic conditions cause a change in the attitude of many corporate clients to resolving business disputes.

Their commercial litigation team has seen an increase in turnover of 35%.

Mark Goodwin, who heads the team, says this is down to companies currently being less likely to settle out of court.

He said: “Like football managers, litigation lawyers are best judged by results. Robust legal advice and an up-front risk assessment are essential before committing to litigation, in order to deliver a successful outcome at trial.”Š
