The Merseyside Police drone _320
POLICE technology and innovation were showcased at an event in Haydock Racecourse.
Staff from each area in Merseyside competed to show how they were working with new inventions to help fight crime.
Equipment that has saved police time, money or has significantly impro-ved the service to the people of Merseyside was showcased, and the force drone demonstrated.
The remote control drone uses the same type of cameras as the force’s helicopter and high visibility CCTV vans.
It is only a metre wide, weighs less than a bag of sugar and and can record images from 500m.
The Neighbourhood Disruption team walked off with the Innovations Show top prize for their invention of a tool to assist in house entry.
The results will be used to develop further learning opportunities for staff within Merseyside Police.
Supt Ngaire Waine, of Merseyside Police, said: “To be the best force in the country means having great ideas to fight crime and sharing them with our workforce quickly.
“It is good practice that organisations constantly listen to their staff, encourage ideas and new innovations, this event is a perfect example of that.”
