Masked robbers smashed thei way into bank
MASKED robbers smashed their way into a Southport bank by driving a car into the front of the building.
The raid occurred at Lloyds TSB bank in London Street after it closed for business yesterday.
Police said the robbers escaped with a large amount of cash. No customers were in the bank at the time, and staff were left “distressed but uninjured.”
After the dark coloured Audi A3 was driven into the glass fronted bank, three men wearing balaclavas got out and helped themselves to money, while a fourth man remained in the car.
They escaped in the car and the Audi was later recovered, burned out, in Windsor Road. It is believed it was stolen from the Childwall area on September 5.
DCI Nikki Holland of Merseyside police said: “Thankfully no-one was injured.”.
