Tourism champion to manage Mersey ferries

THE man who has overseen a huge rise in the number of visitors to the region has quit his job to take charge of some of Merseyside’s biggest attractions.

Martin King has stepped down as director of tourism at The Mersey Partnership (TMP) to become the manager of Mersey Ferries, which is owned by Merseytravel.

Mr King, who joined TMP four years ago, will oversee a portfolio of attractions including Beatles Story, Spaceport and the new U-boat story due to open at the Woodside Ferry Terminal.

Last night, Mr King said: “I am greatly looking forward to it, it’s a great opportunity. It’s been a terrific time [at the TMP].”

Mr King arrived in Merseyside four years ago from the Tussauds Group in London, but had also worked for the company in New York previously.

It is understood that the opportunity with Merseytravel was a “dream job” and will see him somewhat returning to his roots.
