POLICE and fire services were last night called to the Oval sports centre, in Bebington, Wirral, after a body was discovered.
Emergency crews arrived at about 10.25pm. Police last night would only confirm that a dead body had been found at the site. Firefighters were also called to the scene, following unconfirmed reports that the body was found badly burned at the centre.
Last night, officers in white forensic overalls were working behind a green tarpaulin sheet which had been placed close to the entrance to the sports centre.
A police cordon was also set up around the building, which is close to the St John Plessington Catholic College.
Unconfirmed reports said that a A LARGE group of men carrying a firearm forced a woman out of her car and stole it in Everton.
Merseyside Police is appealing for witnesses following the armed robbery on Windermere Street, Everton, on Friday.
At around 4.50pm the female driver of a green Vauxhall Corsa pulled over to take a mobile phone call.
A group of seven to eight males armed with a firearm approached the car and ordered the driver and her female passenger to get out of it.
They then stole the car and drove off in the direction of Breck Road.
The offenders are described as 16-18 years old and wearing black track suits, hooded tops and balaclavas. One of the offenders had red shaved hair and freckles.
Shortly afterwards the same Vauxhall Corsa was involved in a road traffic collision on Beech Street, Kensington with a stationary silver BMW.
l A similar robbery was committed on November 3 on Stuart Road, Crosby, when a teenage boy was thrown out of a car.
At around 6.45pm a black Land Rover Discovery was parked outside Alexander's pharmacy with the keys left in the ignition.
The female driver had left her 14-year-old son in the passenger seat while she went into the pharmacy.
A man armed with a knife opened the driver’s door, threw the victim out of the car and drove away in the direction of Brownmoor Lane.
The car was later discovered on Altcar Road.
The offender is described as white, 19-21 years old, 5ft 10in tall with brown shaved hair. He wore a grey hooded sweatshirt, grey gloves and had a Liverpool accent.
