Scandinavian Seamen’s Church celebrates 125th birthday with three-week cultural festival

GUSTAF Adolfs Kyrka, The Scandinavian Seamens Church, in Park Lane is celebrating its 125th birthday with a three-week cultural programme.

The unique series of events mainly centred at the Grade II listed church opens on Monday with two exhibitions recently transferred from St George’s Hall, featuring From Scandinavia to Liverpool – 125 years, and an outreach painting display from local primary school children .

In the evening there the first of a series of six films from Scandinavia, starting with the Norwegian film The Bothersome Man.

There will be open days and lectures.

On Thursday, December 4, the renowned Swedish folk group Svart Kaffe make a return to Liverpool for a concert, and will participate in an evening session on Swedish dance the next evening.

Also of special note will be the Finnish Independence Day celebrations all day on December 6, featuring Finnish cuisine, design, music and a screening of seasonal film Christmas Story.

The events programme culminates on December 13 with the Swedish Lucia evening festival at the Anglican Cathedral, featuring The Gothenburg Cathedral Girls

Choir together with The Liverpool Cathedral Choir Girls Voices.
