LIVERPOOL has set the stage for another homegrown world premiere.

FACT, in Wood Street, was the venue for a red carpet screening last night when the horror film Salvage was unveiled to a VIP audience, including writer Jimmy McGovern.

It follows hot on the heels of the acclaimed film directed by Terence Davies, Of Time And The City, which premiered at the Philharmonic Hall last month.

Like Davies’s film, Salvage was financed by Northwest Vision and Media’s Digital Departures project, in which three proposed productions were chosen from competition and awarded £250,000 to be made in Liverpool’s Capital of Culture year.

The third film, Kicks, about two teenage girls’ obsession with a footballer, will be premiered at the Odeon Liverpool One next Monday. Salvage was filmed largely on the old set of TV soap Brookside and was produced by Liverpudlian Julie Lau, from Aigburth.

It tells the tale of a community put under Army quarantine after an accident unleash-es something deadly.
