THE man accused of breaking into Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva’s home appeared in court yesterday.
Thieves targeted the Brazilian international’s Woolton home on November 4 as he was playing at Anfield.
Steven Jones, 21, of Deansburn Road, Tuebrook, is charged with burglary and handling stolen goods.
Also appearing before Liverpool Magistrates’ Court was Brenda Jones, 42, of Lowerson Crescent, Norris Green, on a charge of handling stolen property.
Mr and Mrs Jones spoke only to confirm their names, addresses and dates of birth.
Magistrates agreed the case be referred to the Crown Court.
Mr Jones was not granted bail and will remain in custody until his next appearance before magistrates on December 18.
Presiding magistrate Alan Hughes granted Mrs Jones bail, on the condition she continues to live on Lowerson Crescent and reports to Tuebrook police station between 12 and 2pm on December 31.
Both will return to magistrates’ court on January 2, 2009.
