Comic Dodd into battle with robot as festive season well and truly open
STILTWALKERS, snowmen, musicians and a Liverpool legend all lent a hand to light up Christmas.
Comedian Ken Dodd kicked off the festive season in style, offering city centre shoppers a unique “plumptious” celebration.
Church Street’s Christmas tree was lit up with a huge red button for the Squire of Knotty Ash to push, accompanied by a brass band.
The tree was lit at the second time of asking, and shoppers were amazed by a dancing robot which ended up in a tickling stick face-off with Mr Dodd, who said: “Liverpool people know how to enjoy themselves and hundreds have turned out for a good time.”
Council leader Warren Bradley added: “I am confident we will be bucking the general financial trend. It is right and proper we have decorations on this scale to celebrate that in Capital of Culture year.”
