Talks due over 100 oil job losses

UNION leaders will be holding talks with management of a major oil company to try to avert up to 100 job losses after it revealed plans to pull out of Ellesmere Port.

BP/ Castrol plans to close its Cheshire site, which blends and fills oil for Castrol GTX, GTX Magnetec and Duckhams.

The work would go to other plants in Europe, which will then provide lubricants for the UK market.

Unite will meet managers again on Monday, December 1.

Regional Officer, Graham Daley said: “We are shocked and saddened about the announcement.

“Our first concern is for our members and their families.

“Workers at the BP/Castrol site have hit all the targets set by the company and did not expect closure.”

BP/Castrol said the move was being made to ensure the business remains competitive.
