Facebook bid to save Wirral’s culture sites

A GRASSROOTS campaign opposing proposed cuts across Wirral's libraries and leisure centres is growing over a social networking internet site.

Hundreds have joined several Facebook groups vehemently opposed to the closures.

Last week the council confirmed the details of the plans, first revealed in the Daily Post almost a year ago, of the radical “root and branch” review of the borough’s cultural services.

At least a dozen libraries, three leisure centres, two museums and a theatre face closure under the cost-cutting plans revealed by Wirral Council.

The group “Petition against the closure of Wirral leisure centres” had 738 members by last night, with two other groups opposing the council’s plans with members totalling almost 200 members.
