THE red carpet treatment was given to over 400 young people from 17 cities yesterday as the Portrait of a Nation youth summit kicked off at St George’s Hall.
The two-day event was opened by Culture Minister Andy Burnham MP and is a culmination of a two- year project in which more than 3,000 young people have looked at who they are, where they come from and their hopes for the future as young adults.
Mr Burnham said: “This is an exciting and significant moment in the life of this project. I'mŠpleased to welcome them to Liverpool, where everyone will have the chance to listen to their views and share their visions for our nation's future.”
Today, the young people will debate with high-profile panel members and meet Rev Jesse Jackson.
They will be taking part in a Question Time-style debate, with the tables then turned as young ambassadors will take questions from the adults.
A performance will take place at the Liverpool Empire theatre at 5.30pm.
