Kop backs Shields at Anfield
A SHOW of support for the campaign to free Michael Shields took place before last night’s Liverpool match.
Players including captain Steven Gerrard wore ‘Free Michael Now’ T-shirts during the Anfield warm-up session.
It was the club’s biggest public endorsement yet for the campaign to free Shields, convicted of attacking a Bulgarian waiter after their European Cup win in 2005.
Michael Shields’ parents, Michael and Marie, with actress Sue Johnston, spoke to the crowd 10 minutes before kick-off. The Kop held up a mosaic spelling out Free Michael Shields beforehand.
