Liverpool civic and faith leaders tribute to Mumbai victims
LIVERPOOL’S civic and faith leaders gathered at the Town Hall yesterday to remember people injured, killed or affected by the Mumbai attacks.
It followed a series of co-ordinated attacks by gunmen across the southern region of the Indian city of Mumbai last week, in which 185 people were killed and 287 injured.
Liverpool’s Lord Mayor, Cllr Steve Rotheram, said: “This event is Liverpool’s way of showing support to the people of Mumbai.”
Civic leaders attended the service alongside Dr Shiv Pande, the Liverpool-based honorary secretary of the Indo British Association.
Dr Pande said: “It is very important in the UK to uphold and deepen good interfaith relations so we see the way to handle well such events and continue to talk together, increasing understanding rather than suspicion.
