“The fact people come from outside the city and around the world to take part is brilliant.”

Among the runners taking part were siblings Adrian and Fiona Glenn, from Crosby, who raised more than £200 to be split between Marie Curie and Liverpool Jospice.

Adrian Glenn said: “We’ve seen the event every year and decided it was about time we got involved.

“The atmosphere was great and everyone enjoyed themselves. I’d definitely encourage anyone to take part next year.”

Peter Morgan, 53, from Formby, who was running for the fifth year, completed the circuit twice, making it a 10km run.

He said: “I’m running for the Shyira Trust to help people in Rwanda and hope to have raised a few hundred pounds.”

Brothers Christopher, 6, and Andrew Thomas, 5, from Fairfield, ran alongside their father, Stephen, and uncle, Christopher.

Fresh from both winning Judo medals the previous day, the brothers said they had really enjoyed themselves.
