Beer festival sells out in record time

TICKETS for the 2009 Camra Liverpool Beer Festival sold out in a record time of just 65 minutes when they went on sale on Saturday – faster than those for the Bob Dylan concert at the Echo Arena.

Geoff Edwards, Liverpool and District Campaign For Real Ale (Camra) branch chairman said: “This is the fastest sell-out we have known.Š The previous record was three hours.ŠThe Liverpool Beer Festival has built a massive national and even European reputation as probably the only beer festival in the world to be held in a cathedral.ŠThis is a unique event which befits a European Capital of Culture, and the demand for tickets demonstrates the ongoing contribution the Liverpool Beer Festival makes to Liverpool’s profile.”

Camra is in discussion with a national real ale brewery about sponsorship, thereby further reinforcing the national standing of the event. Camra is also preparing a programme of real ale events for 2009 to maintain the momentum.

The rush for festival tickets is now so great that limits have been placed on the number that can be bought by each person.

Mr Edwards said: “Advance bookings were up on last year and, despite limiting the number of tickets per person, over 100 people who queued were disappointed.ŠDemand for tickets this year was unprecedented. One way for local real ale drinkers to avoid disappointment is to join Camra and agree to work at the festival.”
