A 58-YEAR-OLD man has pleaded guilty to the murder of his wife.
David Mulholland, of Heritage Way, Tarleton, near Preston, pleaded guilty at his plea in case management hearing.
The crime happened on July 11 when police received a report of a house fire on Heritage Way, Tarleton. Upon arrival, patrols found the premises well ablaze.
When fire and rescue managed to enter the premises, they found the deceased body of Pamela Mulholland, and David Mulholland alive in the house. Mr Mulholland was pulled out from the building with superficial injuries and was taken to Ormskirk Hospital to be assessed.
He was arrested on the same day on suspicion of murder and was questioned at Leyland police station.
Post mortem results revealed that Pamela Mulholland had died of multiple stab wounds.
On July 14, David Mulholland was charged with the murder of his wife and appeared before magistrates the same morning. He was remanded in custody until the plea in case management hearing yesterday where he has pleaded guilty to murder.
Detective Chief Inspector Des Coop from the Force Major Investigation Team said: “This was a tragic case where Pamela was murdered in a sustained and violent attack and died from multiple stab wounds. Our thoughts today are with Pamela’s friends and family.”
Mulholland will be sentenced next Tuesday, December 16.
