* FIREFIGHTERS have again warned of the dangers of chip pans following two fires over the weekend. An elderly couple were taken to Whiston hospital with smoke inhalation and minor burns after a chip pan caught fire at their Stockbridge Village bungalow on Saturday.
A 76-year-old man suffered burns to his right arm after he attempted to put out flames after the fire started at 3.30pm.
Meanwhile a couple had to be rescued from their flat at Baden House, in Baden Road after a chip pan set on fire just before 10pm on Saturday.
A 46-year-old man and 33-year-old woman suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to the Royal Liverpool Hospital by ambulance.
A fire spokesman said that the kitchen suffered 100% heat and smoke damage.
He added: “Chip pans are notoriously dangerous.
“If you have to use them then make sure they are never left unattended and if a fire does break out never attempt to tackle the blaze yourself.
“Call us out and stay out of the property until we arrive.”
