Elderly woman dies after fire at bungalow
AN ELDERLY woman has died after fire swept through her bedroom in Liverpool home yesterday morning.
Firefighters were called to a house at Long Moss, Litherland, at about 9.30am, after neighbours raised the alarm.
Crews from Bootle, Crosby and Aintree fought the flames, but the front bedroom of the pensioner’s bungalow was destroyed.
Neighbours have named the blaze victim as Kathy Murphy, a private person who is understood to have been in her mid-80s.
A neighbour said the elderly woman was well spoken and always dressed smartly, but in a close-knit community she kept herself to herself.
Merseyside Police has investigated the incident but found no suspicious circumstances. Forensic experts continued to drag burning belongings into the front garden long into the afternoon.
