LIVERPOOL One’s John Lewis store has been in “fine form” in the run-up to Christmas, despite the retailer failing to match its 2007 sales nationally.
The firm, which is seen as a good bellwether for the health of consumer spending, saw sales down 6% for the week to December 13 at £95m.
Andy Street, managing director of John Lewis, said: “It is still possible this week will be the peak one, so a flourish in the final pre-Christmas days would round off a resilient campaign.”
